A Place to Hold Your Whole Story

The Story Behind the Vessel

When I began imagining Lauren Hawkins Counseling, I kept coming back to the image of a restored vessel.

The logo is inspired by kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. What I love about kintsugi is that the repair isn't hidden. The places where the vessel has been broken become part of its story. It is still whole. Still useful. Still beautiful. What happened to it matters, but it does not take away its worth.

I think there is something deeply human about that.

We all carry stories we didn't choose and experiences that have shaped us. We know joy and grief, love and disappointment, confidence and uncertainty. Sometimes those things exist right alongside one another.

Counseling isn't about pretending the hard parts didn't happen or trying to turn you into a different person. I think it is a place where we can be honest about what has been, understand how it has shaped you, and begin to recognize what you want to carry forward and what you may be ready to leave behind.

That is what I hope happens in my counseling room.

I believe you have inherent dignity and immeasurable worth, even in the places of your story that feel unfinished, painful, or difficult to understand. I believe healing is possible without erasing where you have been. And I believe no chapter of your life gets to tell the whole story of who you are.

Maybe that is what I love most about the restored vessel.

It doesn't become beautiful because it was broken.

It was always worthy of being cared for.
